Welcome Back & Happy New Year

I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas break with your family and friends; it seems like no time at all since we were in the middle of plays and parties!

STAFF NEWS

I would like to welcome Mrs Southwell and Mrs White to Charfield. Mrs Southwell is now teaching Year 4 on a Thursday and Friday. Mrs White is teaching Year 5 Wednesday to Friday throughout January.

NEWSLETTER NEW SECTION

At the end of this Newsletter is a new ‘mail’ section. We will list the letters that have been sent out during the week to ensure you haven’t missed any vital information

SPORTS TASTER SESSIONS

On Thursday 15th January, a company called Premier Sports will be providing all children from Y1 – Y6 with a taster session of Tag Rugby. Please could you ensure that your child has adequate warm clothing to take part (boots are not required)

ROAD CLOSURE

Please be advised that Wotton Road will be closed, from its junction with Charfield Road to the county boundary at Watsome Farm, from the 9th February 2009 to 3rd April 2009.

This is to allow for drainage works by Gloucestershire Highways.

CROSS COUNTRY

Saturday morning’s event at KLB has been cancelled due to a frozen ground.

BOOKS FOR SCHOOLS

We have signed up for a collection scheme that could provide us with lots of new books for the school library, and we would like your help.

From January 11, Books for Schools tokens will appear every day in The Times and The Sunday Times. We can exchange these tokens for free books of our choice from a catalogue of 170 titles.

There will be 12 tokens printed every week, and with books starting at only 10 tokens, you don’t have to be a regular Times reader to really make a difference to our collection.

Please collect as many tokens as you can and give them to your child to bring to school. Tokens can be deposited in our special collection boxes, or given to a member of staff.

We will be placing our first book order at the end of the spring term, so please make sure we have all your tokens before the Easter holidays begin.

With your help we can make a real difference to our children’s library, ensuring that they have access to some of the very best titles available to encourage them to read and improve their literacy.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

The following clubs will take place or continue this term. If your child is interested in taking part, please ask in the school office for details and availability.
