The Friends

Who are the Friends of Charfield Primary School?

YOU ARE!

You, as parent /carer of children attending the school, along with teachers and other members of the community wishing to support the school make up the membership of the Friends of Charfield Primary School.

The Friends is a parent run committee, like other committees it is made up of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. There are also regular committee members and our Head teacher, Mr Lawday, is the President of the organisation. The committee is elected annually at the AGM which is usually held in October. The Friends welcome all new members to the committee with great enthusiasm and it is a great way to meet and get to know others in an informal and fun way. The Friends of Charfield Primary School is a registered charity, Registered Charity Number 1041593.

We are very fortunate to have this organisation, which has played such an integral role in the school community. In its time it has raised thousands of pounds, which have been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education and the facilities in school in general.

Meetings

Meetings take place once a month - ask at the School Office for more details.

How money is raised

All the money we raise is through events that we run. These often include the May Fair (May), Chocoholics and Shopping Evening (October), Fireworks Evening (November), Christmas Fair (December) and much much more.

As you can see there is always something going on!  We try to keep the events varied and interesting to all who attend.

We also raise money from other schemes.  Mufti day in school, School Link Books, Gift Aid, Matched Giving, Operation Squirrel, Birthday Book Scheme, Yellow Moon.

How money is spent

...this tends to be very quickly!

Once money is raised from the events, the funds are banked straight away.  It is at the Friends Committee Meetings, that the decision on how to spend the money is taken. Usually Mr Frontczak will have a wish list of items that the school would like to purchase.  Recently the majority of our funds has been used to purchase and erect outdoor play equipment on the playing field.

The funds raised in the main are used for the ‘extras’, which are not covered by the school budget, this helps Charfield School to be the stimulating and exciting environment we all want for our children. The purchases can be anything from books in the library to fencing around the school grounds.

Money raised by The Friends has been spent on equipping our school with a well stocked library, guided reading books, improving our playground, helping run the Girls' Football Tournament, which involved feeding over 110 sports children from around South Gloucestershire and most recently getting an adventure playground. These are just a few of the many things The Friends have worked tirelessly to achieve.

How does information gets to you?

The Friends issue newsletters to send home which give you an insight into what has happened at the meetings and if there are any forthcoming events. These newsletters also enable the Friends to request help when they are planning large events and ask for ideas.

How can you get involved?

It's easy, go along to the next AGM or any committee meeting, you will be made most welcome; both mums and dads.  New committee members are always needed and valued, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you can't come into school.  There are always little jobs that can be done from home, delivering flyers, selling tickets etc.  We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the unseen army of help that exists in school.

All your help, whether it is a committee post or delivering flyers, is equally appreciated.
